Positionality by Joe
A short reflection on background, observation, and the way design became both a method of inquiry and a way of connecting with others.
I come from a small city in China. To "see beyond the well," I devoted myself to studying sketching and watercolour in high school, which helped me enter a good university through the art examination. During my 4 years of study, I gradually explored photography, 2D animation, graphic design, and interaction design, which allowed me to see the world from multiple creative perspectives.
I enjoy observing people, things, and details of daily life. I believe everything has its logic and pattern, and that careful observation can lead to meaningful understanding. When I begin a design project, I like to start with a question: why does this problem exist, and how can design make a difference? This habit helps me stay curious, analytical, and thoughtful in my process.
These experiences have shaped the way I see design. I tend to discover problems in everyday life and seek possible solutions through design. To me, design is not only a way to express beauty, but also a way to understand the world and connect with others.
